The Regional Meteorological Department has predicted that Super Cyclone 'Yash' is likely to make landfall in Sundarban areas and possibly move towards Bangladesh.

But it’s made landfall around 10.30am into  south of Balasore in Odisha on Wednesday tore into the border regions of West Bengal and Odisha and weakened into a cyclonic storm, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake on the eastern coast. Strong winds and heavy tides lashed several coastal towns and villages on either sides of the Odisha ,West Bengal border inundating low-lying areas and uprooting trees, and claiming at least three lives –two in Odisha and one in West Bengal.

The land fall which hapend between north Dhamara coast in Odisha’ Bhadrak district and Bahanga coast in the state’s Balasore district, continued until 1pm with estimated wind speed of 130-155 kmph,

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said one crore individuals had been influenced, and around 15 lakh individuals had been emptied. Public Disaster Response Force and Army staff joined the salvage and help tasks.
